Due to the speed occupation process and unreasonable exploration, that causes damage to the environment; today, everyone that uses big quantity of forest raw material, is obliged to maintain an organized service,  that assures the planting of new areas, in own or third´s lands.

This law purpose is support the forest economic development, conservation and preservation to assure its production continuity. Contributing  with the progress and well being of the Brazilian society. Laminort has reforestment  programs, since 1994, in own lands, according to the environmental demand, where consequently, your future for raw material resources are guaranteed. The area for this project is of approximately 42.000.000 square metres, located in Rondon do Pará, at Pará state.

From the total land, the reforestment area will be of 9.000.000 square metres, and the others 33.000.000 square metres will be used for the preservation of native species. We find at this place approximately 125.000 trees of various species as Amapá, Angelim, Curupixa, Freijó, Jatobá, Sucupira, Tauari… between others, already adults.

At the beginning was destined for the reforestment project 1.000.000 square metres, where 10.000 square metres will be for plant nursery, 10.000 for infra structure, 20.000 square metres for compass needles and 940.000 square metres for the planting. We hope, with this project implantation, to cover 1.000.000 square metres with approximately 800.000 trees, which behavior will be followed through periodic measurements and its results discussed with the project technics.

This project´s main purpose is to recuperate degradeted areas, by planting wood´s industry interest species. Will be planted Mogno, Paricá, Sumaúma, Teak and other native species. The basic idea to use the pre-existing cover, with small needed interferences to establish reazonable planting conditions.

Could be introduced new species, that despite its market potencial proved, needs more studies to render appropriate their planting between the other species. Some species that will be used have already shown very promising in increasing and adaptation with the established conditions.
We believe in the possibility of an harmonious living together between new and natural species, and mainly in the healthy competition, auto-protection and auto-sustenance between the species.

With this strategy we intend to benefit by the ecologic niche pre-existing.

The Brazilian forest code of 1965 (article 15)defined that the Amazonian Forests could only be used by management plans.

In 1989, the service law 001-891 IBAMA – DIREN defined an extensive management plan protocol, including specific extraction technics to reduce forest damages, estimations of the volume that will be explored, silviculture treatments and following methods of the forest development after the exploration. The minimum cut cicle was fixed, at the time, in 30 years.
Briefly, the forest management is a group of technics employed to pick carefully part of the big trees so that the smaller ones, that will be picked latter, stay protected. Adopting the management wood production could be continuous along the years.

The main reasons to manage the forest are:
Production continuity – Management adoption garantees indeterminated production in the area, and requires half of the time needed in non managed exploration.
Profitability – Management economics benefits overcome the costs. These benefits are due to the increasing work productivity and the reduction of wood wastes.
Work security – Management technics drasticly reduces the work accident hazard. In the forest management pilot project (Imazon/WWF) the risk of accident during the cut in the manage operation was 17 times smaller than in the predatory exploration.
Respect to the law – Forest management is obligatory by law. The companies that doesn´t do the management are subject to many penalties. Recently , the society has enhanced the pressure in order that environment and forest laws are fulfilled.
Market opportunities – The companies that adopts a good management are strong candidates to obtain a green seal. Once this certification is, an each time bigger, demand from the customers, mainly from Europe and USA, the companies that have a green seal, proving the authenticity of the managed origin of its wood, will have bigger advantages on trading in the international market.

  • Forest conservation– Forest management garantees the forestal cover of the area, maintain the biggest part of the original vegetation diversity and could have small impact in the fauna, if compared to the non managed exploration.
  • Environmental services – Managed forests render service to the regional and global weather equilibrium, specially by the maintainance of the hydrologic cicle and carbon retention.

The document of forest origin – DOF – was established by government directive number 253 of 18th august 2006, of environment ministry – MMA, substituting ATPF.

It is the obligatory document for the native forestal product and sub-product transportation control, including native vegetal charcoal.

The DOF accompanies, obligatorily, the native forest product and sub-product, from the origin to the destiny (the destiny must be on DOF), by means of individual transportation that can be: highway, aereo, train, fluvial and marine.

Wood processing companies need DOF to transport raw material and wood sub-products ( excepting for finished products and products mentioned in the article no. 9 of IBAMA normative instruction no. 112.

According to the normative instruction no. 112 of august 21, 2006, the DOF control will be made by DOF system available at www.ibama.gov.br.
